Louise Olley (aka Sue) Talks Us Through Her Favourite Songs!
1) 'Let Me Go, Lover' by Kathy Kirby
This lady is a huge inspiration to me and this song is a particular favourite.
2) 'You Don't Know' by Helen Shapiro
I was lucky enough to sing this every night in 'Dreamboats and Petticoats' and if I'm honest, I didn't know the song before I learnt it for my audition, but now it will always be very special to me.
3) 'Peggy Sue' by Buddy Holly
I love anything by Buddy Holly and his boys, but 'Peggy Sue' is definitely a winner.
4) 'She Loves You' by The Beatles
It's difficult to choose a Beatles track because they're all so varied and equally magical. I only wish I had been around to go and watch them perform at the Cavern Club with some friends during the 60's. I don't think you could beat that for a night out!
5) 'Shout' by Lulu (& The Luvvers)
Because...well...LULU.
6) 'Be My Baby' by The Ronettes
This is my character, Sue's, opening song in 'Dreamboats and Miniskirts' and I will NEVER get bored of singing it.
7) 'My Generation' by The Who
I grew up listening to this song and screaming out the lyrics with my brother in the back of our parents car. I don't think they minded because at least we weren't listening to Spice Girls (much).
8) 'The Leader of the Pack' by The Shangri-Las
This song is special because it takes you straight back to the 60's and gives you a little idea of how it might feel to be a teenager in those times. I also may have made up my own music video to it as a kid...
9) 'Dancing in the Street' by Martha & the Vandellas
This is one of my favourite songs to sing. Upbeat, fun, powerful and makes me want to dance!
10) 'I Get Around' by The Beach Boys
This is another song from 'Dreamboats and Miniskirts', in Act 2, where we have a full company dance number which is a lot of fun! It always been an all time favourite of mine so I was thrilled to find out we'd be performing it in the show!
