Happy Birthday Smokey Robinson

Happy Birthday Smokey Robinson

Mag_HappyBirth_SmokeyR_inpostToday marks the 77th birthday of one of our favourite singer-songwriters, Smokey Robinson.

From humble beginnings in Detroit, Smokey first gained fame as a singer and chief songwriter for 'The Miracles' penning hits such as 'You Really Got a Hold On Me' and 'I Second That Emotion'. At the same time, Smokey was also writing and producing other songs for the Motown record label including The Temptation's 'My Girl' and Marvin Gaye's 'Ain't That Peculiar'.

Smokey's last performance with The Miracles was in 1972 when he embarked on a solo career that spanned the next four decades.

He's given us such great music, we couldn't not honour him on his birthday.

Thanks Smokey, this one is for you!
